Is this the best logo ever?
I was recently asked the question "what's your favourite logo of all time?"
For me, this is similar to being asked to choose a favourite song or a meal - how do you pick?
So I allowed myself to be led by nostalgia. I asked myself, "what logo had an impact on me from a young age?"
And then it hit me...
The 1994-2017 Formula One logo.
Watching the F1 with my dad was almost as much of a ritual as attending church, growing up. I was a huge Schumacher fan and loved watching Ferraris battle it out with Mercedes at hundreds of miles an hour on international circuits.
But when the logo caught my attention, I remember being really impressed even as a young person at just how good this design was. It wasn't complicated, it was just "the right logo" for the right brand, a perfect fit.
It definitely sparked my interest in graphic design, and logos especially.
This thing was bold, it was fast, it was simple, it was creative.
Sadly it didn't last, and was replaced in 2017 by a design which is altogether forgetful. And I guess like old cars - they just don't make 'em like they used to!
